Most if not all manufacturers of boilers have been awarded an A rating for energy efficiency for their appliances, including Worcester Bosch & Vaillant. It is important to note that boilers do not always run at this rating, & these figures are achieved when they are ticking over in their ‘condensing’ mode. At this point they capture latent heat from the flue gases & return it into your home rather than out of the flue. This is the difference between old & new boilers. To maximise the time your boiler spends in this optimum mode it is important that the boiler is sized correctly to your home & heating system. Bigger is not better & it will end up cycling & rarely condense. Cycling also reduces reliability & lifespan. Utilising load or whether compensation & even ‘hot water priority’ controls will maximise your boiler’s efficiency & the time it spends in its condensing mode. Using the manufacturer’s own controls is the best & sometimes the only way to do this. Worcester have ‘Bosch Easy’ & Vaillant have ”Sensohome’ range of controls. Both come with apps & gateways to link to your smart devices & offer options of remote monitoring from your heating contractor. Neither Worcester Bosch nor Vaillant are compatible with ‘Opentherm’. Installation of Worcester Bosch vs Vaillant. Why do some heating companies suggest one brand over another?
The installation process is sometimes why a heating contractor may favour one brand over another & can impact the installation cost. One manufacturer will likely lend itself over another in terms of ease of installation, less disruption, & result in lower installation cost.
Worcester installation pros & cons.
- ‘Simple switch’ meaning some of their boilers have identical pipe & flue positions to the old units. <>
- Heat only & system boilers require 5 or 4 cores of cable between the boilers & the airing cupboard, which isn’t always there on existing installations. If not a new cable will need to be run between the boiler & airing cupboard or Mainslink Pro Wireless switch added to the job
- Worcester have very stringent gas inlet pressure requirements. This can mean a new, upgraded gas supply pipe is required.
- No rear flue option. New flue hole is sometimes required
- Manufacturer instructions clearly state no softened water to be put through their boilers.

- Can be controlled with 3 wires
- Stand off bracket required to run pipes up the rear of the boiler, increasing depth by an additional 50 mm

Both Vaillant & Worcester offer market leading manufacturer guarantees on their products. Most models come with up to10 years when installed by a registered Vaillant Master Tech or Worcester Accredited Installer (like The Boilersmith Ltd). These extended guarantees do require the fitting of the manufacturer specific magnetic filters at the time of registration & annual servicing.
Boiler Price Comparison: Worcester Bosch vs. Vaillant
There is very little difference in price between these two brands once you factor in the cost of the flue & magnetic filters. Both are premium brands with different model ranges hitting different price points. In summary, price cannot separate the two.

Choosing a local firm who wants to look after your boiler & home heating for many years to come will make more of an impact to the boiler’s longevity & reliability over the brand or model you choose. The most expensive boiler on the market fitted incorrectly by someone you will never see again will unlikely last as long as a boiler fitted with care.
