Introducing Worcester Bosch’s latest combination boiler released in 2023 targeting the entry level price point at a very competitive £530inc vat whilst most importantly, giving access to their 5 star after care service with its 5 year guarantee.
In this post we delve a little deeper into the pros & cons & how it compares to its big brother the Worcester 4000.
Available in 2 outputs, 24kw & 30kw variants, both giving up to 24kw of heating output. This is vastly more than the average UK home requires so make sure to have your installer range rate the appliance heating output down to match the heat loss of your home. Doing so will increase efficiency, reduce boiler cycling, & increase the boiler’s lifespan. The kw output is more closely related to the hot water delivery, an important issue when considering a Combi boiler. When comparing hot water output it will be given in litres per minute. Make note of the temperature rise being stated. Some manufacturers use 35 degrees, others a 45 degree rise so make sure you’re comparing like for like.
Worcester 1000:
35 degree rise:
24kw – 9.8 l/m
30kw – 12.3 l/m
Worcester 4000
35 degree rise:
25kw – 10.2l/m
30kw 12.3l/m
Modulation. The higher the modulation, the better. It allows the boiler to run at its optimum efficiency (capturing latent heat that would otherwise escape out the flue) for longer periods before cutting out due to temperature exceeding the target set, reducing cycling, reducing start ups, & increasing boiler lifespan.
1000 is 1:5
4000 is 1:8 to 1:10
Depth -285mm + 50mm if rear spacer frame required for pipes running up behind the boiler
Width – 395mm
Height – 655mm
Here are The Boilersmiths Pros & Cons for the Worcester 1000 24kw & 30kw Combination Boiler
Pros:
- Stainless Steel heat exchanger. Only available on Worcesters 1000 range. Very durable especially in hard water areas.
- Access to Worcester Bosch 5 star after care service.
- Compact size that will fit into most kitchen cupboards. See caveat in cons.
- Well thought out layout so parts can be changed easily if & when required keeping maintenance cost down.
- Like all Worcester boilers, parts are some of the cheapest compared to other manufacturers & easy to get hold of.
Cons:
- No rear access for pipes dropping down behind the boiler. If your existing boiler has pipes running behind it the optional stand off bracket is required adding an additional 50mm to the required depth.
- Shorter 5yr guarantee vs the 10 yr guarantee on the 4000 range.
- Possibly not the best choice when converting from an older tank fed gravity system to a combi. The smaller waterways in the stainless steel heat exchanger may get blocked more easily from the older heating systems that contain a lot of debris/magnetite than the traditional aluminium heat exchanger found in the Worcester 4000.
Overall if budget is the main concern then the Worcester 1000 combi boiler is great value for money. If budget & space can stretch to the 4000 then it will likely save you money in the long run on servicing & efficiency due to its better modulation & 10 year guarantee when fitted by a Worcester Accredited installer like The Boilersmith.
